Final Stats
Iona coasted to a 10-0 win in game one and held off a late Siena charge for a 6-5 win in eight innings in the second game to sweep a MAAC softball doubleheader from the Saints in Loudonville Saturday. Jennifer Granato hit her eighth home run of the season in the second game for the Saints.
Laura Stott and Courtney Christie each had two hits and two RBI in the opener for Iona, which scored once in the first, twice in the second, four times in the fifth and three times in the sixth.
Jenny McNulty had two of Siena's six hits in the loss.
In the second game, Iona built a 5-1 lead entering the bottom of the fifth inning before the Saints rallied. Granato launched a two run shot to left centerfield in the bottom of the fifth to start the charge. It was the second home run of the game for the Saints. Kelly Boyle got the home team on the board with a solo shot in the second.
The Saints tied the game on Easton Henrikson's two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to force extra innings.
Alexis Garbowski responded with what proved to be the game-winning home run for the Gales in the top of the eighth.
Jamie Piela went 3-for-3 in the nightcap for the Saints. Granato had two hits, and freshman Lauren Shaheen pitched well in relief after struggling in the circle in the opener.
