Marist swept a softball doubleheader from Siena Saturday in Poughkeepsie 8-5 and 5-3. Marist senior captain Christine Jakobsen went 2-3 in game one with two home runs and four RBI. Andrea Piela homered in game one and sister Jamie had two hits in the second game to lead Siena's offense.
The Foxes scored all eight of their runs in the first three innings to take command. Jakobsen's two run home run in the second inning keyed a five-run rally and her two-run shot in the third made the score 8-0.
Siena scored all five of its runs in the final three innings off of Marist starter Megan Rigos to make things interesting. Jennifer Granato had an RBI hit and scored two runs and Piela's home run helped spark the rally. The Saints scored three off their runs in the sixth inning.
Rigos improved to 6-9 on the season with the victory, firing the complete game and giving up three earned runs on four hits. She walked five batters and struck out eight in the win.
In game two Jessica Green and Melissa Giordano each went 3-4, a 5-3 Marist victory, with Green driving in the game winning runs in the sixth inning with the scored tied at 3-3.
Game two was scoreless until the bottom of the fifth when the Red Foxes scored two runs to take a 2-0 lead. Giordano scored the first run of the inning after leading off with a single. She was chased home after an infield hit by Green and a throwing error. Hulsey knocked in Green with a two-out single to right.
Siena came back in the top of the sixth, scoring three runs to take the lead for the first time of the day. The Saints were the recipients of two unearned runs in the inning, as the Foxes made two errors in the frame. Renne Clavette and Rachelle Morales scored the final two runs after Kelly Boyle started the rally with a single.
The Foxes opened the sixth inning with the first three batters reaching safely. Green drove in the game tying and eventual game winning run with a single to right field.
In addition to her three hits, she scored a run and drove in the two. Giordano added two runs scored in the game for the Foxes, who out hit the Saints 10-7 in the game.
Sophomore Caitlin Carpentier earned the win and moved to 4-8 on the season. Freshman Lauren Shaheen went the distance for the Saints to take the loss.
Siena returns to action in its home opener next Saturday against Rider.
