Comiskey Pitches UMass Past Siena, 9-1

May 1, 2007

Final Stats

Tim Comiskey came one out short of finishing a complete-game shutout, but picked up the win with 8.2 solid innings of work as visiting UMass toppled Siena 8-1 in Loudonville Tuesday. Comiskey limited Siena to just five hits and one run, and the Minutemen bats struck early to build a big lead they would not relinquish.

Adam Tempesta scored on a wild pitch in the first inning after a rocky start for Siena starter Ryan King. King worked out of further trouble in the top of the frame and shutout the Minutemen in his only other inning of work in the second.

UMass scored twice in the third and five times in the fourth to take an 8-0 lead. Bryan Adamski launched a long two-run homerun to left field in the third and the Minutemen had four hits and took advantage of two Siena errors to break the game open in the fourth.

Lou Proietti, Jim Cassidy and Tempesta each had RBI during the five-run fourth.

Siena used seven pitchers, the final four of which did not allow a run. Dan Miklas and Andy Wells each pitchjed two strong, scoreless innings of relief and JJ Potrikus and James Pacifico pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth respectively.

The Saints finally broke through off Comiskey in the bottom of the ninth. Gary DerHagopian lined a solid single down the left field line to plate Phil Cahill with Siena's first and only run.

Bill Rankin posted a game-high three hits for UMass.

The Saints have lost three straight games after winning three straight at the end of last week. The team returns to action in a MAAC doubleheader Saturday at noon at rival LeMoyne.
