Loudonville, N.Y. - Siena swimming and diving freshman diver Elizabeth Rice was named MAAC Diver of the Week as announced by conference headquarters this afternoon. It marks the first time in the program's ten year history that a Siena diver has earned this honor.
Rice had a strong performance in her first collegiate meet, posting high scores against a seasoned New Hampshire diving squad on Saturday. A local product from Gansevoort, N.Y. by way of Saratoga Springs High, Rice scored a 214.05 on the 1-meter board, narrowly missing the school record in that event. She concluded the afternoon with another solid score of 189.83 in the 3-meter event.
Rice's honor continues a recent string of Siena swimmers and divers who have earned conference accolades following the program's recent success. Last season during her freshman campaign as well, Brittany Pavolko was twice named MAAC Swimmer of the Week. Prior to the 2007-08 season, the program had captured just one weekly award.
Rice and the Saints return to action Saturday for their first MAAC meet of the season at Fairfield. Events are slated to get underway at 12 noon.
