Siena lost 5-1 to Jackson State and 13-5 to Northwestern State on the second day of play in the Northwestern State Invitational Saturday in Natchitoches, La. Senior Jen Granato and freshman Olivia Calcagnini continued their strong offensive starts for the Saints.
The Saints scored first in the opener, as Granato drove in Andrea Piela with a grounder to short to start the scoring. The lead held up until the top of the third when Jackson State scored twice off Siena starter Courtney Brinkman. The Lady Tigers added two runs in the fourth to take control.
Jessica Villegas went the distance for Jackson State and allowed just one hit. Brinkman allowed just two earned runs in her five innings in the circle.
In the second game of the day, the Saints fell behind in the first when the host Demons scored twice. Siena took the lead in the third, scoring all five of its runs. Granato had an RBI single and Calcagnini completed the rally with a two-run home run.
Northwestern State answered with eight runs in its half of the third, collecting six hits. Amanda Jameson blasted a two-run home run to highlight the outburst. Jameson had three hits and four RBI. The Demons ended the game with a run in the fifth and two in the sixth.
Lauren Weingart had two hits, a run scored and an RBI for Siena.
The Saints complete play in the three-day Tournament Sunday morning with games against Stephen F. Austin and Jackson State.
