Final Stats
NACHITOCHES, LA. - Freshman Olivia Calcagnini hit a two-run walk-off home run to lift Siena over Jackson State 6-5 in the Saints' final game in the Northwestern State Invitational Sunday afternoon. It was the first win of the season for Siena which lost to Stephen F. Austin 5-4 in extra innings earlier in the day.
Calcagnini went 3-for-3 in the Jackson State game, and drove in three runs. The game-winning home run was her third of the season. Sophomore Lauren Shaheen picked up the victory in the circle. Shaheen went the distance allowing six hits and three earned runs while striking out seven.
Siena rallied from an early 3-0 deficit as Jackson State struck for three runs in its first at bat. The Saints scored a run in the second and third innings on RBI singles by Courtney Brinkman and Calcagnini.
Lauren Weingart sparked a two-run rally in the fifth that gave Siena its first lead with a run-scoring double. Jackson State took the lead back with a pair of runs in the sixth, setting the stage for Calcagnini's heroics.
Earlier in the day, the Saints fell victim to a walk-off home run, losing to Stephen F. Austin 5-4 in eight innings.
After Siena took the lead in the top of the eighth on Jamie Piela's sacrifice fly, second baseman Kari Hugie won the game with a two-run blast in the bottom of the inning.
The Saints had rallied to tie the game with two runs in the sixth inning on Jen Granato's single. Granato and Weingart each had two hits in the setback for Siena, which completed the Tournament with a 1-5 record.
