Final Stats
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Rider University took both games of a doubleheader against Siena Saturday afternoon in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. The Broncs won the first game 5-4 in come-from-behind fashion and the second game 6-2.
Siena jumped on the board in the first inning when Jennifer Granato reached on an error and Lauren Weingart drove her in with a double. Rider's Mandi Sekly responded in the second inning with a two-RBI double. Siena starting pitcher Jamie Piela was replaced by Courtney Brinkman after two innings of work. Piela gave up two runs (one earned) on two hits and three walks.
Granato hit her first home run of the day in the third inning, a three-run shot to give the Saints a 4-2 lead. But Rider would come back in the fifth to score the tying two runs on two consecutive two-out doubles. Brittany Eckett drove in Tiffany Day-Neutill and Derrin Minunni drove in Eckett.
The Broncs scored the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh when Minunni hit a RBI single, scoring Day-Neutill.
Granato left the bases loaded twice during the game. She popped up to the pitcher in the fourth and lined out to third base in the sixth.
Lauren Brunner picked up the win, allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits in seven innings. She threw seven strikeouts.
Rider won the back end of the doubleheader handily 6-2 with two three-run innings in the fourth and fifth. Harris hit a two-run double in the fourth and Katy Mills had RBI singles in the fourth and in the fifth.
Granato was Siena's only source of offense. She went 2-for-3 with two solo shots. Brinkman and Stacie Sueda both had singles and were the only other Saints to reach base.
Rider's Jessica Holland earned the win giving up two runs on four hits in seven strong innings.
Lauren Shaheen took the loss for the Saints giving up six runs in five innings.
The Saints are back in action Sunday when they host Marist at 1 p.m.
