LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Senior co-captain Jennifer Granato hit a three-run home run in each game against Marist to help the Saints sweep a doubleheader from their archrivals Sunday afternoon in Loudonville. The Saints (9-23, 2-6) defeated the Red Foxes (12-21, 0-3) 4-2 and 6-3 to win their first two games in the MAAC along with their first two home games of the season.
Siena's Jamie Piela earned the victory in the front end, giving up two runs on seven hits in the complete game effort. She struck out four and walked one. Marist's only runs came off solo shots by Melissa Giordano in the 3rd and 5th innings.
Andrea Piela responded in the 4th with a RBI single before Granato blasted the three-run shot to centerfield.
Granato and Lauren Weingart drove in all six runs in the second game. Weingart hit a two-run single in the 3rd, plating Jenny McNulty and Granato.
Marist answered in the 4th when Giordano doubled and then scored on Alison Catenacci's RBI single.
Granato hit her second home run of the day, another three-run bomb to extend Siena's lead. Weingart followed, going back-to-back with a solo home run.
The Red Foxes fought to the end, scoring two runs on two hits and an error in the 7th, but Lauren Shaheen buckled down and won the decision. She threw the complete game, striking out seven along the way.
