LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena split a doubleheader against Binghamton in a non-conference set Thursday afternoon in Binghamton. The Bearcats (6-26) won the first game 6-3 behind the long ball and the Saints (10-24) scored four runs in the seventh inning to win the second game slugfest 14-11.
Binghamton's Steph Kolodziejski hit a three run home run in the second inning to give the Bearcats the early lead. Lauren Weingart and Jennifer Granato each hit RBI singles during the game, scoring Jenny McNulty both times.
Deannie Plemon hit a solo home run in the fourth to extend Binghamton's lead.
Megan Quinn singled in two runs in the bottom of the fifth to secure the win.
Binghamton only left two base runners on during the game, Siena left eight aboard.
Nicole Constantatos earned the win, allowing three runs in five innings. Patty Egan recorded the save, giving up one hit in two innings.
Siena took the second game in entertaining fashion, scoring 15 runs on 16 hits. Granato went 3-for-4 with five RBI and Weingart went 2-for-5, both home runs, and drove in four RBI.
Both teams' pitchers were roughed up. Lauren Shaheen gave up five runs (all unearned) on four hits in 2 1/3 innings and Binghamton's Jessica Whitaker gave up five runs on six hits in four innings.
With the Saints down to their final out of the game in the seventh and trailing 11-10, Granato hit a two-run go-ahead double, scoring Stacie Sueda and McNulty. Weingart followed with a two-run bomb, giving the Saints a 14-11 lead from the four-run inning.
Shaheen struck out the side in the seventh to finish it for the Saints.
Siena returns to action Sunday afternoon against Saint Peter's in Loudonville.
