LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Junior Jamie Piela pitched a shutout in game one and Manhattan's Melissa Donnelly threw a shutout of her own in game two to split the doubleheader at Loudonville Saturday afternoon. Siena (15-27, 5-7) softball won game one 4-0 and Manhattan (9-28, 4-8) took game two 1-0.
In game one, Piela (8-10) allowed five hits as she cruised to the complete game shutout. She also helped herself at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI.
The Saints got on the scoreboard in the third inning when Jennifer Granato hit an RBI-single, driving in Renee Clavette. Piela later hit a two-run single, stretching the lead to 3-0.
Siena tacked on another run in the fifth when pinch runner Emily Snow scored on an error.
Game two was the same story, but for different teams. Donnelly gave up just four hits in the complete game shutout.
The Jaspers scratched out the only run of the game in the fourth when Lyndzie Phillips hit an RBI-single, scoring Danielle Just. Phillips went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Lauren Shaheen (5-9) took the loss in game two, allowing the one run on seven hits. She struck out six and walked one.
Jenny McNulty went 3-for-5 on the day.
Siena returns to action Sunday when they host Niagara at noon. Sunday is also Senior Day. Granato, Andrea Piela, and Stacey Landini will be honored in a pre-game ceremony.
