LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Niagara defeated Siena in both games of the doubleheader on Senior Day in Loudonville Sunday afternoon. The Purple Eagles shutout the Saints in game one 9-0 and won a closely played second game 3-2.
Niagara (25-19, 11-3) jumped all over the Siena pitchers in game one. They collected 12 hits to score nine runs in the five inning game. Tiffany McCrory earned the win in the circle, allowing just four hits in the complete game shutout.
Tory Healy went 2-for-3 with three RBI and Kristin Kill went 3-for-3 and scored two runs.
In game two, Siena (15-29, 5-9) took an early lead in the second when Lauren Weingart hit a solo home run.
Kristin Sito responded for the Purple Eagles in the third by hitting a three-run shot. She was a combined 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs on the day.
The Saints fought back in the fourth with back-to-back doubles from Weingart and Jamie Piela to make it 3-2.
Viola took the lead into the seventh inning before getting in trouble. Siena got two runners aboard in the bottom of the seventh on a pinch hit single by Olivia Calcagnini and pinch hit walk by Kat Seeber. But Cassie Stone came out of the bullpen with two outs to retire Andrea Piela and earn the save.
Siena returns to action Tuesday to host cross-town rival UAlbany at 3 p.m.
