The Saints were swept by Elon in Thursday's doubleheader in Burlington, N.C. Siena was defeated 5-2 in game one and 6-1 in game two. The Saints left 15 total runners on base in the two games and struggled to push runners across.
In the first game, the Phoenix got on the board first, scoring two runs in the bottom of the third and adding another in the fourth. The Saints got within one after an RBI single from Nastasha Powlowsky and Jamie Piela scored on an error in the top of the sixth, but Elon put the game away after adding two more runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Saints' starter Jamie Piela fell to 0-2 on the season after giving up three earned runs on four hits in four innings. Siena reached base to lead off five of seven innings but left eight on base and was 0-for-3 with the bases loaded.
In game two, Siena (0-4) managed just three hits and one run. Freshman Amanda Filippazzo allowed six runs, two of them earned, in six innings. Elon (4-5) batters had seven hits, including home runs from Brandi Jones and Ashlee Crewe.
The Phoenix got on the board first in the bottom of the first. Siena came back and tied it at one with a solo home run from freshman Nastasha Powlowsky in the top of the second. That's all the runs the Saints would get as Elon scored five unanswered runs.
Siena will look to pick up their first victory tomorrow as they play two games in the East Carolina Pirate Invitational. The Saints will play Delaware at 10 a.m. and Towson at 2 p.m.
