Final Stats
Freshman phenom Dan Paolini drove in three more runs but it was not enough as the Siena baseball team fell this afternoon at Fairfield, 10-8. The Stags (6-9, 3-0) swept the MAAC opening weekend from the Saints (2-18, 0-3) which lost its fifth consecutive game.
Siena fell behind early and trailed 6-0 through six innings. But in the top of the seventh, the Saints exploded for seven runs to claim a 7-6 lead heading into the stretch.
Kyle Barbato started the damage with a two-run single. After an Anthony Giansanti sacrifice fly later in the frame, Paolini capped the inning with a bases loaded triple that chased home three more runs. The rookie infielder is now hitting .420 through his first 20 collegiate games with a team-best 17 RBI.
Fairfield responded to the Saints' big inning with a sizeable one of their own, plating three more runs in the bottom of the seventh including the game winner to take a 9-7 lead. Siena would get one back in the top of the eighth but could get no closer.
Tucker Nathans led the Stags with three hits and RBI, while Mark Skrapits slugged three hits and scored three times.
Kevin Quaranto added two hits for the Saints and Juan Amador scored a pair of runs. Zach Hartman went five solid innings for Siena, allowing eight hits and four runs while striking out three in picking up a no decision.
Siena returns to action for a midweek non-conference tilt Tuesday afternoon at Hofstra. First pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m.
