Final Stats

UAlbany jumped on Siena pitching early with two runs which was all they needed behind Leah McIntosh's complete game shutout to defeat the Saints 2-0 in game one Wednesday in Albany. The Great Danes got another great pitching performance from Marissa Powell in game two, she allowed just two hits and struck out six to help defeat Siena by an identical score of 2-0 to sweep the doubleheader.

UAlbany (13-7) scored two in the first behind Meagan Butsch's sacrifice fly and Katie Wambold's bases-loaded walk. McIntosh (10-0) picked up her seventh shutout of the season allowing four hits and striking out nine in seven innings.

Jamie Piela (1-4) pitched six strong innings for Siena (2-11) giving up four hits and two runs while striking out four.

Of the Saints four hits, two were for extra bases, doubles by Renee Clavette and Lauren Weingart but Siena managed just five baserunners and just one past second base.

In game two Meagan Butsch's solo home run in the second gave Powell all the offense she would need to pick up the win. Powell (3-7) went the distance for the Danes to pick up her second career shutout and first of the season.

UAlbany added an insurance run in the sixth on an RBI single from Kristine Bill.

Freshman Amanda Filippazzo (1-4) took the loss for the Saints; she pitched six innings allowing four hits and two runs while striking out five.

Filippazzo also had one of Siena's two hits, a double in the fifth and Jenny McNulty's single in the first accounted for the other Saints hit.

Siena will open up MAAC play on Sunday in Loudonville with a doubleheader vs. Iona at 1 p.m.
