Final Stats
The Siena softball lost a doubleheader at Georgia State Wednesday, dropping the first game 4-2 and the second 9-1. Freshman Shannon Jones had two hits and Courtney Brinkman homered in the opener for Siena while Lauren Weingart had two hits in the nightcap.
The Saints led the first game 2-0 entering the bottom of the fifth. Amanda Filippazzo pitched four shutout innings for Siena, but sacrificed a leadoff home run in the fifth and then walked the next batter. She was relieved by Amanda Ferro who worked out of further trouble and allowed the Saints to take a 2-1 lead to the sixth.
Georgia State struck for three runs in the sixth to rally for the win. Audrey Mason's two-run double highlighted the rally.
The second game was tied 1-1 entering the bottom of the fifth when the Panthers broke things open with five runs. Mason again was the offensive star, producing two hits and three RBI.
The Saints return to action this weekend at the Winthrop Invitational. They play Morgan State and host Winthrop Saturday and Sunday.
