A seven-run second inning sparked the Winthrop softball team to a 9-0 victory in five innings over Siena Friday evening at Terry Field.
Leading 1-0 after the first inning, Winthrop exploded for seven runs in the second inning behind a two-RBI single by Pearl Coleshill, a two-run double by Chelsey Schoenfeldt and a two-run single by Lauren Levin.
Coleshill finished the game with two runs, two hits, and two RBI while Schoenfeldt tied a career-high three RBI.
Senior pitcher Cari Wooldridge tossed a solid five innings as she allowed just three hits with no walks and five strikeouts.
Siena used three pitchers as Amanda Ferro got the start and threw one inning allowing one run on no hits and two walks.
Lindsey McKeever, Shannon Jones and Weingart had the hits for the Saints.
The Saints play two games in the Winthrop Invitational Saturday and Sunday.
