Box Score
Pinch hitter Kyle Baldini singled through the left side of the infield chasing home Dan Paolini with the winning run with one out in the 13th as Siena erased an early 5-0 deficit and toppled Holy Cross 6-5 in the Saints' home opener Wednesday.
Siena trailed 5-0 after three and a half innings, before awaking with three runs in the fourth. The first two scored on an error following Larry Balkwill's double. Balkwill finished the game 3-for-6 with a run scored. The Saints tacked on their third run on Mike Allen's RBI two-out RBI single to center.
The Crusaders did not get on the scoreboard the rest of the game as the Saints' bullpen combined for 8.1 innings of scoreless relief. C.J. Sohl relieved starter Kyle Sumple and worked 4.1 innings, sacrificing just two hits. Anthony Giansanti followed with three hitless innings and Robert Tedesco earned the win by pitching a scoreless 13th.
Dan Paolini homered in the fifth and Andrew Sawyer singled home a run in the sixth to tie the game. The two teams then combined to go six and a half innings without scoring.
In the 13th, Paolini reached on an error with one out and advanced to second on Kevin Quaranto's single before scoring on Baldini's big hit.
Quaranto joined Balkwill with three hits for the Saints. Mike Fish and Allen each had two hits.
The two teams were scheduled to play a doubleheader, but the second game was called off because the opener extended into early evening. The game was played before a couple hundred fans on a seasonable day with temperatures reaching the mid-60s in Loudonville.
Siena returns to action this weekend at New York Tech.
