Siena baseball split a doubleheader at South Alabama Saturday afternoon, winning game one 6-2 and losing game two, 12-6. The Saints have won two of the first three games against South Alabama and wrap up the four-game series tomorrow at noon.
Freshman Mike Allen drove in four runs and freshman pitcher Justin Brantley scattered five hits over eight innings in the front end. Brantley had a shutout through five innings before the Jaguars scored on a sacrifice fly.
Siena (3-8) scored in the second and third innings to lead 2-0. The Saints busted the game open with three runs in the eighth inning. Freshman Mike Fish led off with a double down the right field line and scored on an RBI single by Dan Paolini. Allen hit a two-RBI single with two outs to give Siena a 6-1 lead.
South Alabama (7-5) bounced back with a convincing 12-6 win in the second game. The Jaguars scored 10 runs in the first three innings, forcing Siena starter Kyle Sumple from the game. He allowed nine runs (eight earned) on six hits in 2 1/3 innings.
Sophomore C.J. Sohl allowed one run on five hits in 3 2/3 innings of relief.
Siena had 13 hits in game two but stranded 13 runners. Gary DerHagopian hit an RBI single in the first inning and led off the third with a home run. He went 3-for-5 in the game.
