Gary DerHagopian crushed a two-run homer capping a six-run comeback as the Saints split a doubleheader Saturday at Marist. Siena scored eight unanswered runs to post an 11-9 victory in the the opener, but were shutout for just the second time all year in the nightcap, falling 2-0.

Marist (16-11, 6-2) scored five runs in the fifth and added a pair of insurance tallies in the sixth in the first game to take what appeared to be a comfortable 9-3 lead heading into the later innings. But the Saints (13-16, 2-3) exploded for three runs in the seventh, four more in the eighth and added one more for good measure in the ninth to shock the Red Foxes.

In the seventh, DerHagopian, Dan Paolini and Kevin Quaranto drove in runs in consecutive at-bats to pull Siena within 9-6. In the decisive eighth, the first four Siena hitters reached base safely setting up DerHagopian for his two-run shot that gave Siena the lead for good at 10-9.

Quaranto finished a perfect 4-for-4 with his fifth homer of the season to match DerHagopian's offensive accolades. Dan Miklas and Anthony Giansanti held Marist hitless over the final three innings to post the win and save respectively. In a game marred by nine errors between the two teams, a total of nine runs were unearned between the two squads.

In a seven-inning affair in the nightcap, Siena could not continue its offensive success from earlier in the day as the team was shutout for the first time since Mar. 7 at South Alabama. The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the sixth when the Red Foxes' scored a pair of runs off a base hit from Bryce Nugent.

Marist's B.J. Martin needed just 91 pitches in twirling the shutout with no walks and nine strikeouts. Kyle Sumple had his second consecutive impressive MAAC start for the Saints, but picked up a tough luck loss. Sumple surrendered just three hits and two runs (none earned) while striking out three over 5.1 innings.

Siena mustered just four hits in the game, including one from Quaranto. The junior first baseman finished with five hits for the day - three of which went for extra bases - to raise his team leading batting average to just shy of the .400 mark for the season at .398.

Tomorrow's all important rubber game has first pitch scheduled for noon. Freshman righthander Robert Tedesco (3-2, 8.45) will toe the slab for the Saints, while southpaw Chad Gallagher (2-1, 3.89) is expected to get the ball for Marist.
