Game One
Game Two
Siena softball squeezed out just two runs in a doubleheader at Canisius, getting shutout 6-0 in game one and losing 7-2 in game two. The Saints have lost four straight and 10 of their last 11.
In game one, Amanda Baun threw a complete game shutout, scattering four hits over seven innings. She struck out eight batters.
Siena (4-27, 0-2) threatened in the fourth inning when Sara Gallachi was hit by a pitch, Lauren Weingart walked, and Courtney Mahan singled to load the bases with two outs. But Baun struck out Alyssa Sceppaguercio to end the inning.
In the bottom half of the inning, Canisius (17-13, 3-1) scored four runs to extend its lead to 6-0. Michelle Friday busted the game open with a 3-RBI triple to right field.
Mandy Ferro took the loss, allowing six runs on 10 hits in four innings. Courtney Brinkman pitched two perfect innings in relief. She's given up two hits in her last six innings.
In game two, the Golden Griffins got on the scoreboard right away. Lizzy Gatto singled to third base and Friday hit a ground-rule double to put two runners in scoring position with one out. Amanda Filipazzo got Paige Freiberger to ground out, but threw a wild pitch to the next batter, allowing Gatto to score.
Shannon Jones tied the game in the top of the third when she hit an RBI-single to left field, driving in Ferro. But Canisius scored four runs in the bottom half of the inning and added two more in the fifth.
Filipazzo allowed seven runs (three earned) on eight hits in six innings. Brinkman, Weingart and Jones each had two hits.
The Saints return to action on Tuesday when they play Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass.
