Box Score
After Siena erupted for eight unanswered runs to win the first game yesterday, Marist served the Saints payback in today's rubber match outscoring the Green and Gold 13-1 down the stretch to take the game and the series 16-5 in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Junior first baseman Kevin Quaranto had two more hits to raise his team leading batting average to .402 on the season.
After Marist (17-11, 7-2) opened the scoring with a three-run third, the Saints (13-17, 2-4) answered back with three of their own in the fourth before taking a 4-3 lead in the top of the fifth. Siena took its lone lead of the game when #9 hitter Andrew Sawyer singled home the go-ahead run.
But Siena's defense, which committed 11 errors over the weekend series, committed three more in the rubber game which allowed Marist to come back. The Red Foxes scored six times in the bottom of the fifth to reclaim the lead and added seven more insurance runs in the eighth to complete the rout as Siena allowed a season-high in runs.
The middle of Marist's order provided the offensive firepower all day long as #3 and #4 hitters Ricky Pacione and Bryce Nugent combined to go 4-for-8 with three runs scored and seven RBI.
Quaranto, who finished 2-for-4, concluded a stellar five-game week in which he hit .556 overall (10-for-18) with six runs and five extra-base hits. Mike Fish, Gary DerHagopian and Kyle Baldani also had two hits apiece.
The Saints look to get back on track when they return home for a pair of games midweek in Loudonville. The mini homestand begins with non-conference action Tuesday at 4 p.m. against Binghamton.
