Final Stats
Anthony Giansanti reached base in all nine plate appearances and belted two of Siena's six home runs as the Saints swept Brown Wednesday at Murray Stadium in Providence, R.I. The Saints rallied to win the first game, 9-8 and took the nightcap by an 11-7 score.
After mustering just eight runs in a three-game series loss over the weekend to Niagara, the Siena (12-15) offense erupted for 20 runs, 24 hits and six home runs against Brown (5-17). Siena has now won eight of its past 10 non-conference tilts.
In the opener, Siena trailed 6-1 after five innings and 8-6 heading into the seventh and final inning. In the top of the seventh with runners on the corners and one out, Kyle Baldani singled up the middle plating Kevin Quaranto to pull the Saints within one.
After Kyle Hudson grounded out for the second out, pinch hitter Kyle Barbato came through in the clutch, singling to right to score both Gary DerHagopian and Baldani with the eventual game-winner.
Giansanti went 3-for-3 plus a pair of walks in the opener, while Baldani also tallied three hits. Dan Paolini and Mike Fish both homered for the Saints.
In the second game, the Saints plated three runs in the top of the first and never looked back. Brown tried to make things interesting late, hitting back-to-back homers in the bottom of the ninth, but Dan Miklas retired the next three batters in order to end the threat.
Giansanti again went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBI including a pair of home runs, while Paolini and Fish each went deep once more. Paolini has continued his tremendous power showing and now has hit 12 home runs in just 26 games.
Fish added three hits and DerHagopian added a trio of RBI, while Ryan Poplawski went a scoreless and hitless 1.2 innings to move to a perfect 3-0 in relief this season.
The Saints return to action for the start of a three-game MAAC series Saturday and Sunday at Marist. The series begins at noon Saturday in Poughkeepsie.
