Game One
Game Two
Siena softball dropped both games of a doubleheader at Hartford Thursday evening. The Saints lost game one, 4-1, and battled back to within one run in the sixth inning of game two, before Hartford put up six runs in the bottom half and won 9-3.
Brittney Stratton scattered three hits over seven innings and allowed just one run (unearned) as Hartford defeated Siena 4-1 in game one. Hartford's (13-8) Sara Messinger drove in the first run of the game in the second inning on a double to right centerfield. The Hawks tacked on three more in the fourth when Ann Kyzer hit a two-RBI double down the left field line. She advanced to third on a groundout and then scored on a passed ball.
Siena (4-25) tallied its only run of the game in the fifth inning. Stacie Sueda reached on an error and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. With two outs, Amada Ferro plated Sueda with an RBI single.
Ferro (0-4) took the loss in the circle, allowing one run on two hits in two innings. Courtney Brinkman gave up three runs in four innings of relief.
In game two, the Saints battled back from a 3-0 deficit in the top of the sixth inning with one swing of the bat by Lauren Weingart. She drilled a two-run home run, her third of the season, drawing her team within one.
But Siena's woes continued in the bottom half of the inning. The Saints gave up six runs, all with two outs. Shannon Simpkins scored on an RBI single, Jessica Oliveira scored on a passed ball and Haines punctuated the rally with a grand slam.
Amanda Filipazzo (2-15) surrendered nine runs (eight earned) in six innings. She struck out five and walked seven.
The Saints return to action on Saturday when they play a doubleheader at Canisius in Buffalo, N.Y.
