Rider rallied from two deficits to defeat Siena 5-3 Sunday in Lawrenceville completing a three-game weekend sweep. Dan Paolini launched his school-record 18th home run of the season in the loss.
Siena jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first on an RBI single by Larry Balkwill. On the play, Anthony Giansanti, who was hit by a pitch to lead off the game, scored. Mike Fish singled and then scored on an error on Balkwill's hit.
Rider tied the game in the bottom of the first, 2-2, taking advantage of three Siena errors.
Paoloni started the third with a solo home run to left center - his second shot of the weekend and 18th of the season. The 18 home runs represent a school record, breaking the 25-year old mark of 15 set by Steve Borg in 1985.
Rider scored three runs in the fifth inning, this time taking advantage of two Siena errors. Siena starter Robert Tedesco went 4.2 innings and allowed just two earned runs. He was relieved by Ryan Poplawski who worked the final 3.1 innings without allowing a run.
Siena could not mount a serious threat from the fifth inning on.
Patrick Devlin pitched six innings to pick up the win and Chris LeRoy teamed with Tyler Smith to close the door on the Saints from the seventh inning on.
A.J. Albee, Brandon Cotton and Eric Woodrow each had two hits for Rider. Balkwill was the only Saint who managed a multi-hit game.
Siena returns to action Monday at Bryant at 3:30 p.m.
