Siena and Rider split a MAAC twinbill Sunday in Lawrenceville. The Broncs won the first game 7-1 and Siena took the second 6-4
Game 1: Rider 7, Siena 1
Rider broke open a 2-1 game with five runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Heather Muscara's third home run of the season started the scoring in the second inning, but Siena answered in the top of the third on Shannon Jones' RBI single.
Brittany Eckett's 10th home run of the season provided the go-ahead run for the Broncs in the bottom of the fourth.
In the sixth, Rider scored five times on five hits.
Siena did not commit an error, but managed just two hits off starter Rachael Matreale who went the distance to pick up her ninth win of the year.
Game 2: Siena 6, Rider 4 (8 innings)
Nastasha Powlowski's RBI double broke a 4-4 tie in the eighth inning and Lindsey McKeever followed with an RBI single that provided an insurance run as Siena took the nightcap 6-4.
Rider tied the game on Candice Harris' double to left center field which chased home two runs in the bottom of the seventh.
The Broncs led 2-0 after the first inning, but Siena scored four unanswered runs to take a 4-2 lead. Jessica Mushel doubled home the Saints' first two runs of the game in the second, McKeever picked up an RBI with a ground out in the fifth and Alyssa Sceppaguercio singled home a run in the sixth.
Siena used all three of its pitchers: Mandy Ferro started and went two innings, Courtney Brinkman pitched 4.1 innings and sacrificed two runs and Amanda Filippazzo returned after starting the first game to post her third victory of the weekend, working the final 1.2 innings without allowing a run.
Mushel finished with three of Siena's 13 hits. Jones and Sara Gallacchi each had two.
Siena returns to action Friday when it hosts Niagara at 3 p.m.
