LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Lauren Weingart homered twice and drove in five runs as Siena softball swept Saint Peter's by scores of 6-1 and 8-0 on Senior Day Sunday at Siena Field. The Saints conclude the season with a 14-37 overall record and 7-9 mark in the MAAC.
Prior to the first game, the Saints' honored graduating seniors Courtney Mahan, Jessica Mushel, Emily Snow, Stacie Sueda and Weingart.
Game 1: Siena 6, Saint Peter's 1
In the opener the Saints pounced on the Peahens, scoring a pair of runs in the first before adding a run in the second to build an early 3-0 lead. Shannon Jones plated a run with a double to right and Weingart followed with an RBI single in the first. Mandy Ferro doubled to left, scoring the Saints' second inning run.
After Ariana Payan singled home Saint Peter's lone run of the day to make it 3-1 in the third, Siena closed things out with a three-run fifth. Weingart provided the pop with a two-run blast to center.
Amanda Filippazzo went the distance allowing just one run on three hits in picking up the win. She also struck out three batters to finish with 101 for the season. Weingart, Jones and Ferro all recorded two-hits in the 10-hit barrage for the Saints.
Game 2: Siena 8, Saint Peter's 0 (5 innings)
The Saints made quick work of the Peahens in the nightcap, scoring three runs in the first and plated runs in all four innings in which they hit. For a second straight game Siena posted 10 hits and showed prowess on the basepaths as well, stealing three bags in three attempts.
Jones, Lindsey McKeever and Mahan all tallied RBI hits in the decisive first frame. Weingart added another two-run homer, her seventh of the year in the second inning, to put the game out of reach. On her Senior Day, Weingart finished 4-for-6 with two homers and five RBI in the sweep.
Ferro started in the circle and hurled two hitless innings. Courtney Brinkman replaced her and went the final three innings stirking out three to pick up the win and combine for the shutout.
