LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Head Coach Tony Rossi announced today that seniors Zach Hartman and Kevin Quaranto and junior Dan Paolini will serve as tri-captains for the 2011 season. The trio was elected by a recent team vote.
Hartman (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) has appeared in 37 games in his career and won 11 games. As a freshman, he was 8-1 on the bump, helping the Saints reach the MAAC Championship game. He was 1-3 with a 4.45 ERA in MAAC games as a junior before going down with a season ending injury. When healthy, he has proven to be one of the league's better pitchers.
Quaranto and Paolini make up one of the top right sides of the infield in the Northeast. In fact, both players were named to the ECAC First Team this past season - at first and second base respectively.
Quaranto (Hopkinton, Mass./St. John's), also a First Team All-MAAC honoree, enjoyed a breakthrough year of his own this season batting a team-best .413 in 54 games played. His 85 hits were one shy of Paolini's 2009 single-season school record and his 24 doubles set a new single season standard. Quaranto ended the year with a 23-game hit streak and reached base in over half is at bats this season (.508 OBP). He launched 12 home runs, drove in 54 runs and scored 53 times.
Paolini (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell) recently became the first Division I All-American in Siena baseball history, being selected to the Collegiate Baseball Second Team. He crushed the program home run mark of 15 set 25 years ago by Steve Borg (1985), earning a spot in the inaugural College Baseball Home Run Derby July 7 (airs on CBS July 11 at 1 PM EST). The MAAC Player of the Year led the nation this season with .49 home runs per game, launching a MAAC-record 26 in just 53 games played. His 26 home runs, trail only Jordan Ribera of Fresno State who connected on 27 home runs in 63 games played.
