Jordan Bourgue drove home the winning run with no outs in the 10th on a suicide squeeze, as Louisiana-Lafayette got past Siena 4-3 Friday night in Lafayette, La. The Saints scored three runs in the sixth to tie the game, and got stellar pitching performances from Kyle Sumple and Ryan Poplawski.
ULL lead 3-0 after five innings, but Siena started the sixth with three straight hits to rally. Dan Paolini's liner up the middle chased home John Rooney with the Saints' first run, and Kevin Quaranto's sacrifice fly allowed Mike Fish to cross with the second. Paolini scored later in the inning on an RBI groundout by Larry Balkwill, tying the score, 3-3.
Neither team scored in the final third of the game as Matt Hicks locked up with Poplawski in a relief pitchers duel.
Tyler Frederick started the decisive rally with a double in the 10th. He was sacrificed to third and scored on Bourgue's bunt single following an intentional walk.
The top five hitters in the Siena lineup each had a hit as did pinch hitter Vincent Citro.
Sumple went six innings on the bump for Siena, allowing just two earned runs and striking out seven.
The Saints played a much crisper game than any they managed last weekend at Central Florida. They will try to bust into the win column Saturday. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. Central Time.
