Siena softball split their first two games of 2011 Saturday in Cary, N.C., falling to Delaware State 9-1 but rebounding to rout South Carolina State 13-4. These were the first two of four games Siena will play down south.

In the first tilt, Delaware State scored the game's first eight runs and the Saints (1-1) were unable to recover. Courtney Brinkman led the Saints with two hits, while Mandy Ferro drove in Siena's lone run of the contest.

However, the Saints came back to record a much better decision that afternoon. The win over South Carolina State featured an 11-run second inning, and Siena banged out a total of 17 hits in the runaway win. Sophomore Shannon Jones led the way with a 4-for-4 game that also included two runs scored and an RBI, while junior hurler Amanda Filippazzo allowed just one hit in four innings pitched.

Siena faces Youngstown State and host North Carolina Central in two games on Sunday.
