LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena senior midfielder Steve Covino has signed a professional contract with FC New York of the United Soccer League. Covino, who was recently named to the 2010 NSCAA/Performance Subaru All-North Atlantic Region Third Team, is the program's first student-athlete to sign a professional contract.
"This is a fantastic achievement for Steve," commented head coach Gareth Elliott. "After a terrific senior year it is certainly well-deserved."
A native of Bristol, Conn., Covino posted career-highs in every major offensive category this past season, finishing with eight goals and ranked second on the team and ninth in the MAAC with 20 points. For his efforts, he was named to the All-MAAC Second Team.
Covino and FC New York open the 2011 season on Apr. 9 at Orlando.
