For the third straight day of action, the Siena softball team split two games on Friday. In the first day of competition at the UMBC Retriever Classic, the Saints fell 11-3 to Liberty in the opener but rebound to top Princeton 2-0 later that afternoon.
Siena (3-3) started the day with two runs in their first half-inning of play against Liberty. However, the Saints would record just one more hit the rest of the game, while giving up 11 to their opponents. Shannon Jones, Jessika - Jo Sandrini, and Courtney Brinkman all drove in runs in the losing effort.
The day's second game featured another strong outing from Sandrini, who threw a two-hit shutout of Princeton while striking out five hitters. The freshman made a big impact at the plate as well, accounting for three of Siena's five hits and scoring a run. Brinkman and Kayla Kaminsky each drove in runs for the Saints in their third victory of the year.
Siena will return to action Saturday, with a game against tournament host UMBC.
