Final Stats
It was another long day for Siena baseball on Saturday, as the Saints remained winless following two losses at Charleston Southern. The Saints fell 14-8 in the opener and dropped yet another one-run affair 5-4 in the nightcap.
Siena (0-8) jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three and a half innings of play in the first game, but Charleston Southern (6-4) narrowed the gap to one run heading into the bottom of the sixth. The Saints then allowed ten runs on nine hits, including two two-run home runs, and also fell victim to a successfully executed suicide squeeze. Siena scored three runs in the top of the seventh on a one-run single by Mike Fish and a two-RBI knock by Dan Paolini, but the deficit was ultimately too big to overcome.
The Saints then made the most of their opportunities in game two, scoring four runs on just six hits. Perhaps the biggest one came off the bat of William Cardona, who pinch-hit for Mike Allen in the top of the eighth and tied the game at 4-4 with a two-run single. However, Siena would record their fourth one-run loss in five games after a walk, a sacrifice bunt, and two singles by Charleston Southern in the bottom of the ninth off reliever C.J. Sohl. Starter Justin Brantley pitched well, allowing just two runs on seven hits in six innings of work, but ultimately did not record a decision.
Siena will finish the three-game series at Charleston Southern with a 1 p.m. tilt on Sunday.
