Game One Box Score
Game Two Box Score
For the second straight day, Siena's bats came alive in game one of a doubleheader, ensuring a runaway win. And for the second straight day, those bats fell silent in the nightcap, as Siena softball settled for a split with MAAC rival Canisius Friday in Loudonville.
Game one saw the Saints (16-21, 4-6 MAAC) put up six runs in the third and four in the fourth en route to a 10-2 five-inning victory. Siena made the most of its opportunities, scoring their 10 runs on just seven hits.
Jessika - Jo Sandrini and Mandy Ferro each had two hits, while Ferro, Shannon Jones, and Kirstyn Vaughn drove in two runs apiece. Sandrini was also sharp in the circle, allowing four hits while recording her tenth win of the season. The freshman's double-digit win total is the first for Siena softball in five years.
Game two, however, did not go as smoothly for the Green and Gold. The Saints managed just three hits, and were unable to work a single walk in the nightcap.
The game was the latest hard-luck loss for Amanda Filippazzo, who allowed just one earned run over six solid innings. However, the Griffs struck for four unearned runs in the first, and tagged reliever Ferro for two more scores (one earned) in the seventh.
The Saints will next be in action on Tuesday, when they renew their crosstown rivalry with UAlbany at Siena Field. When the teams last met, Siena snapped an 18-game losing streak to the Great Danes earlier this year at Albany Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
