Not much is going right for the Siena baseball team these days. The Saints committed 10 errors Sunday, and collected just six hits, losing a non-league doubleheader to Binghamton 12-1 and 6-2. When the dust settled, the reeling Saints had suffered their eighth consecutive loss in just nine days.
Today's two games were originally scheduled to be played in Binghamton, but were moved to Loudonville Friday because of anticipated bad weather and poor field conditions.
It didn't matter.
Binghamton slammed the Saints 12-1 in Sunday's seven-inning opener behind a complete game effort from Mike Augliera. Siena committed six errors and had just three hits. The Bearcats pounded out 13 hits and raced to a 5-0 lead in their first at bat, batting around, and chasing Siena starter Kyle Sumple after he recorded just three outs.
They batted around again in the fourth, hanging a six spot on the scoreboard, and turning the contest into an all-out rout.
Daniel Navares had three hits and two RBI to pace Binghamton. C.J. Lukaszewski, Dave Ciocchi, Corey Taylor and Peter Bregartner had two hits apiece.
Neil Fryer pitched two hitless innings of relief for the Saints once the game was well out of hand.
Binghamton grabbed firm control of the nightcap with two runs in the second, and three in third. The Bearcats out-hit Siena 10-3 in game two, and the Saints were again victimized by shoddy defense, committing four errors.
Freshman Tyler Bell was the only Saint to hit safely in both games Sunday. Bregartner and Taylor posted multi-hit efforts in each game for the Bearcats.
Jay Lynch started and went six innings, allowing just three hits and one earned run to pick up the victory. Zach Julian came on to strikeout Dan Paolini on three pitches to earn the save after the Saints mounted a mild rally in the seventh.
Zach Hartman went the distance in game two for Siena and allowed 10 hits and five earned runs.
The Saints look to snap their eight-game losing streak, and for their first home wins of the season Wednesday when they host Brown in a 2p.m. doubleheader.
