Game Two Box Score
Siena split two games on their spring break trip to Maryland Saturday. The Saints used an offensive explosion to top Mount St. Mary's 8-5 before dropping a 5-2 decision to host UMBC in the day's second game.
The Saints (2-4) came out of the gates on fire, striking for seven runs in the first three innings against the Mountaineers in a game that was never in doubt. Sophomore Jessika - Jo Sandrini led the charge with a perfect 3-for-3 performance that included a home run, three RBI and a run scored, while junior Mandy Ferro scored two runs and drove one in as well.
Siena got off to a fast start in the nightcap as well, taking a 2-1 lead on a pair of bases-loaded walks by Shannon Jones and Megan Volz in the third inning. However, that would be the last threat by the Siena offense, which was held hitless for the final four innings of play. Meanwhile, the Retrievers scored four unearned runs with two outs in the sixth stemming from an error by Stephanie Viggiano, clinching the 5-2 victory.
The Saints return to the field Sunday, when they'll face Seton Hall and Coppin State.
