Game One Box Score
Game Two Box Score
It was a rough trip to New Jersey Saturday for Siena softball. The Saints were swept in a doubleheader at Big East foe Seton Hall, dropping the twin bill by 3-2 and 7-0 scores in falling to 0-3 against the Pirates this season.
The day couldn't have started much better for Siena (6-15). In their first turn at bat in the opener, the Saints kicked off the game with back-to-back solo home runs by junior Mandy Ferro and sophomore Jessika - Jo Sandrini. However, the Saints would manage only two more hits the rest of the way, and Seton Hall got both runs back with a two-run homer in their half of the third.
The game ultimately went to extra innings with the score tied at 2. Lindsey McKeever was placed on second base to start the inning, and advanced to third on a passed ball, but was then nailed at home to end the threat. The Pirates, meanwhile, took advantage of the baserunner and scored the winning run, tagging Siena pitcher Sandrini with another hard-luck defeat.
The nightcap was a much more one-sided affair. Siena's offense got runners on base but failed to get them in, leaving eight Saints stranded while the Pirate bats caught fire with 13 hits. Seton Hall struck for three runs in the third and four more in the fourth, sending the Saints to their ninth straight defeat.
The Saints will look to reverse their fortunes in their home opener on Tuesday, when the Saints host Sacred Heart in a 3 p.m. doubleheader in Loudonville.
