Box Score

An unprecedented winning streak for Siena softball came to an end Thursday. The Saints fell 4-1 at Fairleigh Dickinson, and recorded their first loss in two weeks in the process.

Things started out well for the Saints (18-22). Alyssa Sceppaguercio opened the scoring with a solo home run in the second inning, her second four-bagger of the season. However, Siena's offense was otherwise held in check, and would not score again.

While the Green and Gold were held scoreless, the Knights went to work. Fairleigh Dickinson took the lead with a pair of RBI singles in the fourth, and added two more runs in the fifth on a two-out double.

Siena's best chance to get back in the game came in the sixth. Shannon Jones completed a 3-for-3 day with a one-out single, and advanced to third on a base knock by Jessika - Jo Sandrini. Jen Duell pinch-ran for Sandrini and promptly advanced to second on a wild pitch, giving the Saints two runners in scoring position. However, Nastasha Powlowsky grounded out, Megan Volz struck out, and the Saints then went down quietly in the seventh.

The loss snapped Siena's 11-game winning streak, one that dated back to a split of a doubleheader at Colgate on April 12. The Saints will look to rebound Saturday at an important MAAC twin bill at Rider, one scheduled to start at 1 p.m. in Lawrenceville, N.J.
