Siena softball won its third game in four chances as they swept the second day of the UMBC Spring Classic. The Saints accomplished this feat with wins over Georgetown (5-4) and Morgan State (16-3).
In the first game, Siena gained their first win in program history against a Big East foe, defeating Georgetown 5-4.
The Hoyas (4-19) led 2-0 going into the sixth inning when Siena made their comeback. Abby Carpenter drove in two runs which would ignite a five run inning for the Saints. Melanie Kalesse would add an RBI walk and Shannon Jones singled to drive in a run.
Jessika-Jo Sandrini came in relief, pitching seven innings and allowing two runs while striking out seven in getting her second win of the season.
The sixth inning has been the frame where Siena has done their damage lately. The Saints have scored 25 runs in the sixth in their last four games.
The nightcap featured an offense output, seeing the Saints score 15-runs in the first three innings. The Saints started off their scoring in the first with Sandrini and Alyssa Lancaster both doubling in runs in the frame.
The second stanza would show the Saints scoring seven runs, all with two outs to keep the lead for good. RBI singles from Carpenter and Mandy Ferro would follow run scoring hits from Sandrini and Lancaster.
Mikaela Searight, Paige Lloyd, and Carpenter would add homeruns later in the contest to complete the scoring.
Carpenter drove in three in the win while Sandrini added four RBIs.
Siena will complete their play at the UMBC Spring Classic with a rematch against Georgetown at 10:15 a.m.
