Jessika - Jo Sandrini grounded out to the third baseman with the tying run in scoring position and Siena's bats were silenced, managing only four hits falling to the University at Texas El Paso 3-1. It was the only game for the two teams, which originally scheduled a doubleheader, but cancelled one contest due to a unidentified bomb threat on the school's campus.
The Miners (11-15) were the first team on the board in a tightly contested pitcher's duel. Antonia Edwards recording two outs in the bottom of the third inning, but UTEP would rally. The Miners scored two runs on only two hits in the inning, scoring on a fielding error and a single by Kayleigh Walts. Both runs were unearned for the Saints who have allowed 40 unearned runs in the first 19 games of the season.
Siena (5-14) notched two of their four total hits in the top half of the frame to chip into the deficit when Paige Lloyd drew a bases loaded walk to make the score 3-1. Laura Ramos would get out of the one out bases loaded jam by striking out Melanie Kalesse and forcing Stephanie Viggiano to line out.
Alyssa Lancaster came in relief and only allowed one run the rest of the way. Siena mounted a two out rally in the seventh.
Jordan Sandrini reached on an error and Shannon Jones singled into left field, putting the tying run on base for Jessika - Jo Sandrini who grounded out to end the game.
Kalesse, Jones, Abby Carpenter, and Mandy Ferro were the only Saints to record hits on the day. Edwards allowed only two hits in three and two-thirds innings of work. Lancaster relieved her and allowed only two hits and a run the rest of the way.
The Saints and Miners wrap up their now three game series tomorrow with a doubleheader.
