Baseball Slits Pair at Charleston Southern

Larry Balkwill had six hits and six RBI on the day, and Justin Brantley carried a no-hitter into the sixth as Siena rallied to win the second game 10-5 after dropping the first 8-7 at Charleston Southern Saturday.

Siena (3-8) led the second game 8-0 before Charleston Southern struck for four runs in the seventh.

Balkwill went 4-for-5 with three RBI in the nightcap. He drove in the first run of the game with a single in the first and added an RBI hit in Siena's four-run third. Andres Ortiz and Vincent Citro combined to score five of Siena's 10 runs.

Meanwhile, Brantley delivered his best outing of the season on the bump. He carried a no hitter into the sixth, and didn't allow a run until he tired in the seventh.

The Saints also took advantage of six Charleston Southern errors.

Siena rallied for three runs in the ninth, but left the tying run on base in the 8-7 loss in the opener.

Charleston Southern jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three innings, erupting for four runs on five hits in the second off Siena starter Matt Gage.

Five different players had multi-hit games for Charleston Southern. Ortiz had three hits and Balkwill had two hits and three RBI for the Saints.

The two teams play the rubber game of the three-game set Sunday at 1 p.m.
