Saints' Bats Explode in Sweep

April 9, 2013

Box Score

Siena's offense accounted for 25 runs, 24 hits, and only struck out three times, as the Saints had their best offensive production at home exactly eight years ago today. Stephanie Viggiano went 6-for-7 and scored five times as Siena swept Holy Cross 10-2 and 15-7. Siena came within one run for the program record in a home series set in 2004.

In Game one, Siena (8-19) was helped by five different players driving in runs. After trailing 1-0 in the second, Siena would gain the lead and hold it for good.

Paige Lloyd started the scoring for Siena with a RBI double which plated Lauren Milligan for the tying run.

The Saints would take the lead for good in the third when they struck for three runs including RBI singles by Jessika - Jo Sandrini and Megan Volz.

Sandrini would also add the big hit for the squad in the fifth with a single which plated two runs.

Sandrini had the best overall game in the opener, taking the mound and going the distance for her fourth win of the year, scattering five hits while allowing just two runs and striking out five. She also added to her conference leading statistic by being hit by three pitches in the two games and stole two bases.

Viggiano went 3-for-4 at the plate and scored two runs, while Milligan scored twice while going 1-for-3 with an RBI.

In the nightcap, Mandy Ferro, Melanie Kalesse, Alyssa Lancaster, and Viggiano combined to go 13-for-15 and scored 10 of the team's 15 runs.

The Saints, who won their fifth straight against the Crusaders, tallied 11 runs in their final two innings. Siena scored five in the fourth via RBIs from Volz, Ferro, and Shannon Jones.

Jordan Sandrini would also pick up an RBI with a single in the six run fifth, which was capped off by a Viggiano single which would end the game.

Ferro went a combined 4-for-6 and scored six runs, Lancaster enjoyed a 4-for-7 outing with four RBI and Kalesse had four hits in as many at bats, scoring three runs.

Antonia Edwards picked up her second win of the season, going 4.2 inning and striking out a pair.

Siena will look to keep the bats hot as they travel to Buffalo to take on Niagara on Saturday.
