Baseball Gets Back On Track, Hammers Binghamton on Road

May 1, 2013

Final Stats

The Siena baseball team jumped out to a 7-0 lead after its first two at bats and coasted home to a 10-3 win at Binghamton Wednesday afternoon. Andres Ortiz and Mike Fish both homered in the win.

The Saints (20-24) scored four runs in the first even though none of their first six batters recorded a hit. Vincent Citro reached on an error to lead off the game and three of the next five men walked, setting the stage for Mike Allen who cleared the bases with his 10th double of the season.

Ortiz` three-run shot in the second gave Siena total command.

Justin Brantley got a rare midweek start to tone his technique, and the senior responded with a perfect 1-2-3- first. He was credited with the victory as head coach Tony Rossi used a predetermined six-man rotation.

Tom O'Brien, Dan Dopico and Kyano Cummings each followed Brantley with scoreless frames. Jim Miendl gave up two runs in two innings and Rick Morales gave up one run in the final three frames.

Brian Fay's sac fly in the seventh chased home Siena's eighth run, and Fish homered after an Ortiz walk in the ninth for the final two tallies.

Siena had just six hits, two coming off the bat of Fish. Binghamton (21-19) scored just three runs on 11 hits. The Bearcats suffered their second lopsided loss in as many days to a MAAC school (Marist 9-2).

The Saints return home for a crucial MAAC series against contender Canisius this weekend at Siena Field.
