Saints on Wrong End of Walk Off Homer

Feb. 23, 2014

Box Score

The Siena softball team was swept in the second day of the Buccaneer Challenge in Johnson City, Tenn. on Sunday afternoon, dropping a 1-0 pitching duel in eight innings to Oakland and 7-0 to East Tennessee State.

A day after giving up five runs in the first two innings, Antonia Edwards responded nicely, pitching 5.2 shutout innings against Oakland University. Edwards gave up three hits while striking out five of the 21 batters she faced.

Jessika-Jo Sandrini relieved Edwards in the sixth inning and picked up where she left off after her complete game shutout victory yesterday afternoon. Sandrini and the Saints defense put zeros on the board through seven innings before Oakland catcher Erika Polidori sent a Sandrini pitch over the left field wall for the 3-0 win.

Lauren Milligan led the Saints offensively with two hits, a double in the third and a single up the middle in the Siena fifth.

East Tennessee State defeated the Saints 7-0 in today's rematch earning seven runs on eight hits.

Siena was led offensively by Alyssa Lancaster, Stephanie Viggiano and Mikaela Searight, each earning one hit apiece. Lancaster singled to right in the second, Viggiano singled in the fourth and Searight singled to short in the fifth inning.

Jessika-Jo Sandrini struggled on the mound, giving up six runs on five hits in four innings of work. Danielle Cacciola relieved Sandrini to pitch perfect fifth, sitting down ETSU in order.

Katie Casey and Antonia Edwards also saw time in the circle to help the Saints close out the final two innings.

Siena returns to the field on March 9, 2014 when they travel to Winter Haven, Fla. for the 2014 Rebel Spring Games where the Saints will play 12 games in six days.
