The softball team had a rough day in day four f the Rebel Spring Games Thursday afternoon. The Saints dropped both games to Creighton 5-1 and Bucknell 9-1 as the offense struggled, managing two hits and two runs on the day.
Jessika-Jo Sandrini started in the circle against Creighton. Sandrini pitched five innings, giving up five runs on five hits with four walks and seven strikeouts. At the plate, Sandrini scored the Saints only run in the top of the fourth inning.
Melanie Kalesse recorded the only hit for the Saints with a double in the fourth inning to drive home Sandrini for the RBI.
Creighton's pitcher, Becca Changstrom had the Saints off-balance all day, pitching a complete game and striking out ten batters while giving up the one run, one walk and one hit, all coming in the fourth inning.
The hitting woes continued into the second game against Bucknell as the Saints dropped their game 9-1.
Jessika-Jo Sandrini earned the Saints only hit of the game in the sixth inning with a single.
Jordan Sandrini scored the lone run for the Saints, after she reached base on a walk in the fifth inning.
Antonia Edwards starting in the circle, going two innings, giving up two runs, zero earned and a walk. Danielle Cacciola relieved Edwards in the top of the third and pitched the next three innings. Cacciola gave up four runs on two timely hits by Bucknell. Katie Casey finished the game and gave up three runs on two hits.
Softball is back at it Friday morning for a rematch with Bucknell at 11 a.m. and South Dakota at 3:30 p.m.
