Box Score
Siena softball traveled back to New Rochelle, N.Y. to finish up their Saturday series after game two was suspended due to heavy rain. A late rally by the Saints wasn't enough as Iona completed the sweep as they defeated the Saints 6-4.
A day after sweeping first place Fairfield, Siena couldn't carry over the momentum and recover from the 6-3 deficit from Saturday.
Siena (25-20, 10-4) fell into a 5-1 hole early Saturday afternoon after giving up five runs in the first inning. Antonia Edwards struggled in the circle, only recording one out and gave up all five runs.
Danielle Cacciola came in and settled down the Saints, pitching 5.2 innings while giving up one run on six hits.
The Saints score one run Monday afternoon in an effort to make a comeback to avoid the series sweep. Paige Lloyd sent an RBI double to the leftfield fence to cut the Gael's lead to 6-4.
Iona's (18-21, 12-6) Courage went back to the circle Monday to finalize her complete game. Courage gave up four runs on five hits with six strikeouts.
Siena wouldn't get any closer and the Gael's completed the series sweep. Softball is home tomorrow for one game against the UAlbany Great Danes before returning to MAAC play Thursday for a doubleheader against last season's MAAC Champions Marist.
Siena is one conference win away from clinching one of the six berths in this year's MAAC Championship. The Championships will be held May 8-10 in Fairfield, Conn.
