The softball team was back in action a day after losing two games at crosstown rival UAlbany. Siena traveled to Holy Cross for a doubleheader and was minutes away from sweeping Holly Cross before darkness set in and the Saints were robbed of the 6-5 win. Siena defeated the Crusaders 7-0 in game one.

Controversy occurred during the end of the second game, as the Saints were ahead by one in the bottom of the seventh inning, with one on and one out when the game was called for darkness, despite efforts by the umpires to finish the game. By NCAA rule, the game reverted back to the score of the last equal inning played. The last equal inning played was the sixth inning, which the Saints trailed 5-4. Therefore, the Saints were denied the sweep and lost game two 5-4.

Antonia Edwards tossed a complete game, six innings, giving up all five runs on ten hits. Edwards kept the Saints competitive and gave them the opportunity to take the lead back in the top of the seventh inning.

Alyssa Lancaster and Abby Carpenter continued to swing a hot bat with each recording two hits and an RBI in game two. Jordan Sandrini relieved Melanie Kalesse and hit a pinch-hit home run.

In game one, Jessika - Jo Sandrini pitched her fifth straight complete game, earning the 8-0 win to improve her record to 10-5. Sandrini tossed the complete game shutout, facing 23 batters, striking out eight batters and only allowed two hits.

Lancaster had another two hits in the first game, bringing her daily total to four hits. Lancaster's two hits drove home three RBI's to lead the Saints passed the Crusaders in the win.

Melanie Kalesse, Lauren Milligan and Megan Volz also drove in one run each. Volz had two hits, her first multi-hit game and Kalesse scored a run on two hits as the Saints offence continued to put runs on the board.

The Saints (11-13) are off Friday and will continue MAAC play when they travel to face Rider (4/5) and Monmouth (4/6) this weekend. For the latest information and live stats on this weekend's games, visit SienaSaints.com.
