The Saints traveled to Lawrenceville, N.J. for their first MAAC conference games Saturday afternoon. Paige Lloyd came through in the clutch in the second game to give the Saints a 3-2 edge as the Saints also took home a 4-2 win in the first game.
Jessika-Jo Sandrini came out with the strong arm in the first game, pitching her sixth consecutive complete game. Sandrini improved her record to 11-5; she faced 30 batters, giving up only one run on six hits while striking out six.
Rider centerfielder Amanda Irving gave the Broncs a 1-0 lead in the first when she hit her second home run of the season.
The Saints scored runs in both the fifth and the sixth innings, taking a 2-1 lead only for Rider to tie the game back up at two in the bottom of the sixth when the Broncs scored off a Sandrini wild pitch.
Abby Carpenter hit a two out double in the 7th inning to break the 2-2 tie, giving the Saints a 4-2 win.
Paige Lloyd led the Saints in game two as they won 3-2 for the doubleheader sweep. The Broncs were holding a strong 2-1 lead going into the 7th when Paige Lloyd knocked a two-run homer into right field giving the Saints a 3-2 lead. Freshman Danielle Cacciola pitched a perfect seventh to earn her first win in her collegiate career.
Chelsey Drew had three of the six hits for the Saints in the game two win. Sandrini started the second game, only giving up two hits and no runs over three innings, Cacciola finished the game, giving up three hits and one run while striking out three over four innings.
The Saints (13-14, 2-0) are looking to continue their conference success when they face off against Monmouth in a doubleheader match tomorrow.
