The Siena Softball team lost both of it's games Saturday, losing to UMASS-Lowell 7-1, and North Dakota 6-3. Paige Lloyd and Sammy Smaldone homered in the losses.
In the first game the Saints (0-2) struggled to generate runs, despite out-hitting the River Hawks 7-6. The Saints lone run of the game came in the top of the seventh when Lloyd hit a homerun to center field.
Lloyd and Alyssa Lancaster both went 2-3 in the game with Lloyd's homerun being the lone RBI. Danielle Cacciola started and drew the loss for the Saints allowing three runs in two innings. Vanessa Cooper led the way for UMASS-Lowell (8-6) going 2-3 with three RBI's and one run. Erica Armenti pitched seven innings to pick up the win for the River Hawks.
In the nightcap North Dakota (3-5) got on the Saints (0-4) early scoring two runs in the first and third innings. The Saints would cut the lead to one in the fourth. Lancaster would double home Melanie Kalesse who singled to start the inning, and Smaldone homered to center field, picking up two RBI's.
Those would be the only runs the Saints would score in the game, however, and North Dakota would add to their lead with single runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Amanda Gatt (0-1) got the start in the second game, pitching 3.3 innings and allowing four runs and four hits in the loss. Hannah Bergh (6-3) got the win for North Dakota pitching 5.1 innings and allowing three runs
The Saints close out the Madeira Beach Spring Invitational today taking on Villanova at 9 a.m. and Eastern Michigan at 2 p.m.
