A day after scoring only two run in two games, the Saints offense rattled off a combined 13 runs, but lost to Kansas 9-7 and Stony Brook 11-6. The Saints held in the lead in the fourth inning or later in both games.
In the first game Siena used a huge six run inning in the fourth to take a commanding 6-2 lead over Kansas. Chelsey Drew, Sammy Smaldone, Lauren Milligan and Stephanie Viggiano recorded RBIs in the inning as the Saints scored six runs on only four hits.
Kansas answered in the bottom of the fourth, however, scoring seven runs capped by a Daniella Chavez grand slam, giving the Jayhawks a 9-6 lead. The Saints would score in the fifth on a Paige Lloyd RBI double, but would strand three on base to end the inning and would lose 9-7.
Amanda Gatt drew the loss in the start for Siena, pitching 3.1 innings, giving up six hits and seven runs (6 earned.) Sophia Templin picked up the win for the Jayhawks.
In the second game Siena fought back from a 4-1 deficit, scoring four runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 5-4 lead. Lloyd would drive home a run and score in the inning, while a Paige Hess single down the right field line drove home two.
Stony Brook and Siena would match runs in the sixth and the Saints went into the seventh with a 6-5 lead. The Seawolves were able to manufacture six runs on only two hits in the top of the seventh and would retake the lead, before retiring Siena in the bottom of the seventh.
Lauren Butts started for the Saints in the second game, pitching 2 innings giving up four hits and 3 runs in the loss. Jane Sallen earned the win for the Seawolves.
Siena plays it's final game of the North Florida tournament tomorrow taking on South Dakota at 12:15 p.m.
