March 1, 2015 Final Stats
The Siena Softball team lost to South Dakota 8-7 to end the UNF Tournament. The game was ended after the sixth inning due to a time restriction, which said the game had to end at 1:45.
The Saints drew first blood in the first inning, when an Alyssa Lancaster single advanced Stephanie Viggiano to third, where she scored on an error by the catcher. South Dakota would pick up single runs in the second and third before Siena would explode for five runs in the fourth.
Paige Lloyd doubled to left center clearing the bases for the Saints for three of their fourth inning runs. Viggiano would follow with a single to left center scoring Lloyd and Abby Carpenter would knock home Viggiano.
The Saints would score one run in the fifth on a Sammy Smaldone home run, her third of the season. South Dakota got a consistent effort over the second half of the game, however, scoring two runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
A Katie Cochran RBI single in the bottom of the sixth would prove to be the winning run, as play was ended when the game reached it's 1:45 p.m. cutoff time.
Amanda Gatt drew the start for the Saints, pitching 2.2 innings giving up seven hits and two runs, while Danielle Cacciola drew the loss. Madison Frain picked up the win for the Coyotes, pitching 2.1 innings allowing two hits and one run.
The Saints travel to Baltimore, Md. two weekends from now to compete in the UMBC Spring Classic, beginning with a game against Sacred Heart Friday March 13th at 10:30 a.m.
